Project Management

In one paragraph, who is Yuri Scala as a project management professional?

I am a Project Management Professional (PMP) with 25 years well-experienced working in multiple industries, where I have accumulated the learned skill, knowledge, and maturity to serve some of the largest companies in Brazil.

Why did you choose the sustainable tourism development industry to manage projects?

Sustainable tourism has many positive impacts on economic, social, and environmental development, tourist destinations, and especially on the people in these communities. Thus, sustainable tourism acts as a catalyst that promotes, but is not limited to:

  • The growth of the economy

Generating opportunities for new ventures; good quality jobs, with gender equality, inclusive and accessible to all; better income distribution.

  • The preservation and socio-cultural promotion

Valuing traditions and tangible and intangible cultural heritage; and improving the quality of life in the local community.

  • Environmental protection

Helping to prevent, mitigate, or cancel the negative impact of tourism on the environment.

How do you identify with the daily life of the sustainable tourism industry?

Sustainable tourism is transformative and induces progress, especially in small communities with restricted economic alternatives. In addition, sustainable tourism can combat poverty, hunger, lack of formal education, sexual traffic, and many other social inequalities.

It is a stimulating challenge to present the personality of tourist destinations, the authenticity of communities, and the originality of diverse cultures as well as to explore and optimize the factors that drive the activity to ensure that the expected benefits of sustainable tourism activity are realized.

In another way, it is also very stimulating to face the specific challenges of the industry, such as the fragmentation of the production chain; the transversality of the sector within the community; the seasonality of seasons; the standardization of products and services; the fragility in the face of macroeconomic factors; geopolitical threats, environmental and sanitary disasters; in addition to the need to combat the negative impacts promoted by the activity, and others.
